What is play therapy?
Child-Centred Play Therapy is a therapeutic approach designed to support children in expressing their emotions, processing experiences, and developing healthy coping skills through the natural language of play. Rooted in the belief that children have an innate ability to move toward healing, this non-directive therapy gives the child full freedom to lead the play within a safe, supportive environment. Play therapy is typically targeted to children aged between 3-11 years who have social, emotional or behavioural difficulties. Play therapy techniques can also be used in adult therapy.
Play therapy can benefit individuals facing a variety of issues including trauma and abuse, attachment needs, emotional and behavioural difficulties, developmental and learning disabilities, relationship and communication needs.
Play therapy can lead to improved emotional regulation, increased self-esteem, enhanced social skills, and the development of effective coping strategies.
